Greetings from Mrs. Fugowski

August 17, 2011
Buon Appetito!

Food has been a focal point of my family ever since I can remember.  My family spent many hours sitting around the kitchen table talking and laughing while our plates were filled with delicious food.  My father is a gourmet chef and at 91 years old, he is still cooking!

This summer I spent three weeks in Ft. Meyers, Florida with my parents and what I enjoyed most was learning to cook specialty Italian dishes with my father.  Each day it was something different... homemade gnocchi, mushroom risotto, chicken cacciatora, mussles marinara... but no matter what it was we were cooking, I was fascinated by my father's expertise in the kitchen.    He was patient guiding me through all the steps of kneading, chopping, mixing, or sauteing, and sharing with me his secrets which are the crucial ingredients that make the difference in truly great cooking.  This special time with my father will be forever etched in my memory.

Reading has also been a passion I have had ever since I can remember.  During the school year the books I read are educationally related, so it is a treat in the summer to read books that I choose.  Sometimes I stay up much too late reading and finish a book in just one day!  My favorite book so far is The Healer by Sharon Sala.

What have you been doing with your summer?  Write back to me and share some of your adventures!!  I hope that you are reading. (If not, grab a good book before the summer is over!!)  I am looking forward to meeting you in September!

I Would Like to Hear From You

Please tell me about something you have done or will do this summer.  You can comment as many times as you want throughout the summer.

Each group brainstormed and then designed their model.

Did they design an efficient landfill?  Why or why not?

Please comment.

Descriptive Writing

April 1, 2009

Our class has written another descriptive paragraph, this time using similes and metaphors.  We chose the FOG to try to make our readers visualize what was all around us.  We hope you enjoy the paragraphs.

A Foggy Day

It was a dark foggy day by the calm sea. I could hear the loud fog horns of the giant ships behind the wall of fog. In the fog, the lighthouse’s beam was like a huge dim flashlight in the distance. The fog became so thick that soon I couldn’t see the sand under my feet. I felt depressed since it covered everything in darkness.

A Foggy Day

It was a dark and foggy day on the shore of Atlantic City. I was in my red boat fishing with my dad. The fog was as thick as smoke and as moist as being in a dishwasher.  The fog was like a giant blanket covering the world for miles and miles. I could just barely see the lighthouse in the horizon as dim as a flashlight just about to go out. In this white fog, I felt scared like a blind person simply trying to get around.

The Day the Fog Came

I woke up and looked out my window. All I saw was fog! It was so wide it was like many blankets spread out for miles covering the Earth. The fog made everything wet. It was so wet it was like it rained for days. Later, the fog cleared up. I played football for awhile, and then I played baseball. The fog came back. It was if the fog hated me, liked me, and hated me again! After all of that I felt happy, but would this be over soon?

A Foggy Day

It was a foggy day. The fog hung over us like a big blanket. I was walking on the beach and I saw a lighthouse.  It looked like a dim flashlight slowly dying. I heard the boats’ horns honking so they wouldn’t run into each other. I would not know what would happen later on. I was scared that I wouldn’t make it home for dinner. Would the fog lift to make the day better or would it stay awhile?

A  Foggy Day

When we were driving down to Florida, it was a foggy day. The fog got thicker and thicker. It was a huge blanket covering the road. I fell asleep and when I woke up the fog was still as thick as pea soup. I felt scared that we never get there.

The Deep Fog

Today the fog was as thick as smoke coming out of a burning house. I didn’t want to go to school since the fog was so dense that it looked like a blanket covering the ground. I waited hours but the fog was a curtain hanging over the land. Then I went outside to see how dense it was and I couldn’t see anything but mist. I was feeling depressed, but when I was watching the fog disintegrate, I started to feel happy……But would the fog go away?

Into the Fog

It was a damp foggy day as we wre driving in the family car. The fog was like a huge heavy blanket that was covering Elm Street. As we were driving, it got worse and we were blinded in the massive cloud.  I felt nervous and scared in the curtain of fog.  Would we crash?

The Fog

It was a calm breezy day and the sky was forbiddingly dark. My dad and I were driving home from our horses boarding farm. We were almost to 22 Nimbus Drive when the sky started  getting darker. We thought a storm was coming. Soon a long fluffy fog came rolling in. We were blinded.  We swerved off the road and were in the grass. Being stuck, we both got out of the car and started walking toward the fog. It lasted forever. We finally saw our house, ran through the drive way, but Clarisse came out before we could get in. She asked where the car was and we told her all about the horrible fog. We slowly walked to the door like sloths.  The fog was not my friend that day.

A Day Of Fog

It was a foggy day and the fog covered the ground like a soft blanket. It looked like it would never end. When I was in the fog, I felt blinded because it was thick as pea soup. I was also scared because everything was in shadows. Anything could jump out and get me!

Here Comes The Fog

It all happened on a dark foggy day. I was lost in the middle of the lake. The fog caught me like a huge fishing net. The lake became deep and the sky grey just like the fog. The fog was a brick wall that I couldn’t get past. I was scared and frightened and thinking I would never find my way home.

One Foggy Day

Today was a really foggy day. As I looked outside, the fog was a white thick blanket over the city. My mom said we had to go to the store. Was the fog going to slow us down or make my mom not see where she’s driving? I was scared since the fog was like a huge wall blocking her view.
